COP23 Presidency Photo Competition 2017 for professional and amateur photographers from the pacific.

Application Deadline: 5:00 PM Fiji Time Zone on August 18, 2017.

As part of the COP23 Presidency’s Pacific Photo Competition, amateur and professional photographers from across the Pacific will have the chance to have their photographs displayed at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (‘COP23’) that will take place in Bonn, Germany, 6-17 November 2017.

Requirements:

The Competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers over the age of 18 who are residents of one of the following: Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu or Wallis and Futuna.

Photograph:

The judges will be looking for photographs that show:

  1. The human and/or environmental impacts of climate change; OR
  2. How individuals and groups are mobilising to counter the threat posed by climate change

An entrant may submit either a new or existing photograph that has been shot by the entrant on or after January 1, 2015.

Cropped photos are eligible. However, we will not accept photos that have been digitally or otherwise enhanced. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustments or the digital equivalents, are acceptable for all categories.

Caption:

For each photograph submitted, please include a detailed caption that explains where the photograph is taken, what the photograph depicts, and how it relates to the impacts of and responses to climate change. Captions should be no more than 150 words long.

Please take time to write these captions in full sentences, in English, with proper grammar and spelling. The COP23 Presidency Secretariat reserves the right to make revisions and edits to the captions.

Please be sure to include your full name, age, contact details (phone and e-mail) and residential address. Please also indicate whether you are a professional or amateur photographer.

For the purposes of this contest, a professional photographer is an individual who makes 100 per cent of his or her income from photography,

If you are a professional photographer, you may also include the link to a website or social media channel that hosts a portfolio of your work.

How to enter:

Please submit photographs and requested information in an e-mail sent to photos@cop23.com.fj.

You may submit no more than 5 photographs per individual. In order to be displayed in our online gallery without being stretched or distorted, photographs must be at least 2,000 pixels wide and no larger than 10 MB, in either .jpeg, .jpg or .gif format.

Winning Entries:

Winning entries will be displayed at COP23 in Bonn, Germany.

The entries may also be displayed at an exhibition in Fiji either during or after COP23. The COP23 Secretariat will also explore the possibility of creating a travelling exhibition in other locations as well.

In addition, the winning entries will be displayed with photographer credit on the COP23 Presidency website (www.cop23.com.fj) and shared on the Presidency’s social media channels. The winning entries may also be shared with partners to promote on their websites and social media channels. Such selections will be made at the COP23 Presidency Secretariat’s sole discretion.
