Application Deadline: June 15th 2016

Now in its second year, The Curtis Scholarship, conceived and funded by Global Citizen Ambassador and manager of Pearl Jam Kelly Curtis, is an annual award that will fund an overseas development trip with Global Citizen for the award winner.

The award winner will be selected by a panel of senior Global Poverty Project (GPP) judges, and will be selected on the basis of talent, originality, writing/production ability, style and creativity.

The award winner will be invited to join a five day learning trip to Senegal in early August. The trip will be an immersive cultural experience that will also provide an opportunity to learn about development programs focused on the core policy area of child health and wellness.

Accompanied by a member of the Global Poverty Project staff, the award winner will have the opportunity to meet with key partners working on the ground in Senegal. Included in the trip will be:

  • Round trip airfare
  • All trip-related meals
  • Lodging and transportation
  • Other out-of-pocket expenses (at the GPP’s discretion)

Additionally, the award will cover travel to and accommodation during the 2016 Global Citizen Festival.

  • The competition is open to students aged 18 or older, enrolled in a US or Canadian college or university, either as an undergraduate or postgraduate.
  • Applicants must hold a valid passport and would be responsible for vaccines and visas required to travel.
  • Fluency or working knowledge of French would be highly beneficial.

The Curtis Scholar will be required to chronicle reflections on their trip and learning via a daily blog or video blog posted on the Global Citizen website.

All submissions (video or written) will become the property of Global Citizen – to be potentially used as content on Global Citizen, or as marketing materials to promote Global Citizen. The application submission deadline is June 15, 2016.
