IBM Futures scheme 2018 for young School Leavers
Whether you have decided to go straight into work, take a gap year before University, or are exploring your options post-education, our IBM School Leaver programmes will enable you gain the experience, skills and contacts you need to start building a bright future. Working with us you’ll have limitless opportunities to do exciting and meaningful work in an environment that rewards creative thinking and individuality. We’ll place you straight into a full time role so you’ll be the one in charge, putting forward ideas, taking on responsibilities and making choices about how you get the job done just like any other employee.
We offer two School Leaver programmes; the IBM Apprenticeship scheme, which is a full time permanent role, and the IBM Futures scheme, which is a 12-month paid gap year.
12 Month Futures Scheme
You might be uncertain about whether to start work, complete an apprenticeship or go to university, if that’s you and you are unsure of what to do next, take a look at our IBM Futures Scheme. The scheme offers you an invaluable opportunity to work with a world-leading company for 12-months, broadening your horizons and giving you a head start in your career.
You’ll be deployed onto a challenging work placement, where you’ll support and learn from experienced professionals across IBM. That could be in any area across the company. Then, at the end of the placement, it’s in your hands. If you would like to consider IBM as a long-term career then you could apply for our Apprenticeship scheme, or you could go off to university and consider IBM’s Undergraduate and Graduate opportunities in a few years time.
During your year you’ll have a great support network. For the day-to-day things, you’ll have a Task Manager who’ll help you with new tasks, manage your workload and give you the opportunity to get involved. You’ll also have an Early Professional Manager looking after your ongoing development and your future career plans.

We also work in teams all the time, so you need to be someone who’ll thrive in that kind of environment – a great communicator and someone with the ability to lead others. There are other characteristics we look for, too. We call them competencies – think about whether, and how, you can demonstrate them during our application process. We look for eight specific competencies during our Application Process: Adaptability, Communication, Client Focus, Creative Problem Solving, Drive, Teamwork, Passion for IBM and Taking Ownership.

How to apply
Choose your role and ensure you meet the minimum requirements. Complete the IBM Application Form (to download the application form, click HERE). Fill in your personal details online and upload your IBM Application Form.
Dependent on the role you will be invited to take online tests. All instructions will be sent at this point with further details of the test and there is the opportunity to request reasonable adjustment.
Your online application will be reviewed in more detail and for some roles you may be asked to complete a video assessment.
You will be invited to an IBM office and take part in some of the following activities: group exercises, case studies, interviews and presentations.
After assessment centre you will be added to a pool of candidates. If a suitable role becomes available you will be invited to attend interviews. If successful you will then become part of the IBM team!
