Submission Deadline: midnight (EST) on Sunday, 15 January 2017

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) and UN Environment are calling on the public to share how they’re ensuring #NotWasting by submitting a video online.

The Make #NotWasting food a way of life video contest is open to private citizens, schools, nongovernmental organizations, businesses, agricultural producers, and municipal and state/provincial government agencies, in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Your video

Tell us why your food waste reduction initiative, whether small- or large-scale, is both innovative and impactful. The initiative must be actively attempting to salvage food before it becomes waste—for example, a consumer who buys food wisely and uses all leftovers, a grocery store that avoids rotting overstock or a municipality that prevents food waste from ending up in landfills.

Your video does not have to be a big production. We just want to hear about and acknowledge your great initiatives!

Videos must be 3 minutes or less and posted online at the contest site before midnight (EST) on Sunday, 15 January 2017. Participants are also encouraged to share their video on social media, using the hashtag #NotWasting.

A panel of North American experts will select the three winning submissions.

One winner from each country will be invited (all expenses paid) to present his/her initiative at the first North American Workshop on Food Waste Reduction and Recovery, hosted by the CEC in Toronto, Canada from February 28-March 2, 2017.
