Application Deadline: January 15, 2016 at 11:59:59p.m. ET (“Application Period”).

Yamaha Corporation of America (“Sponsor”) is inviting young musicians to submit audio recordings of solo performances. The Grand Prize includes the opportunity for an all-expense paid trip to Yamaha’s Young Performing Artist Celebration at the Music For All™ Summer Symposium held in Muncie, Indiana at Ball State University on June 25-28, 2016. Winners will have the opportunity to perform in front of thousands at the Music for All™ Summer Symposium, attend workshops and clinics designed to launch a professional career, and get media exposure throughout the world via the Internet.

The YYPA program recognizes outstanding young musicians from the worlds of classical, jazz and contemporary music. Winners of this competition will be invited to attend an all-expense paid weekend at the Music for All™ Summer Symposium, receive a once in a lifetime performance opportunity in front of thousands, national press coverage, receive a recording and photos of the live performance, and participate in workshops designed to launch a professional music career.

Winners also will enjoy many of the privileges of a Yamaha Artist, including services and communication with Yamaha’s Artist Relations department.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The Competition is open to all legal residents of the 50 United States (including District of Columbia), who are full-time students studying in the U.S. and are 18-22 years of age at the time of entry (“Applicant”). 


How to Enter:

  • During the Application Period, Applicants must submit an Application & Video and Audio Recording(s) –  A completed 2016 Application indicating whether he/she wishes to be considered as a jazz/contemporary or classical applicant, including their nominator’s information, all of which must be submitted online at to be an eligible entry; and  a minimum of 2 and  maximum of 5 different recordings, at least one of which must be a video recording (the format is described in the Application found at of solo performances (with accompaniment, if applicable) using one of the following instruments: Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Mallet or Concert Percussion, Drums, Violin, Viola, Cello, Upright Bass, and Piano (collectively the “Submission”).


To All Applicants… Applicant must have attained a high level of musical achievement in solo appearances and ensemble performances, and possess personal qualities compatible with the high musical standards necessary for acceptance into the Program.

To All Jazz/Contemporary Applicants…. Recordings should feature Applicant as a soloist, rather than an ensemble player.  Edit recordings to include solo materials you would like the judge to consider.
