Have you seen or felt the impact of racism and discrimination in your community? Do you have a great idea to help build a more inclusive Canada? This is your opportunity to make a positive difference in your community.
Through the Paul Yuzyk Youth Initiative for Multiculturalism, you can receive a $250, $500 or $1,000 grant to fund a youth-led project that promotes diversity and inclusion, while addressing racism and discrimination in local communities.
This initiative honours the legacy of the late Senator Paul Yuzyk, a champion for multiculturalism in Canada.
- Canadian citizens or permanent residents, between the ages of 18 to 24 years old, are eligible to apply. An applicant who receives funding from Canadian Heritage can work as an individual, in a team, with a mentor, a school, or an incorporated not-for-profit to complete the project proposed.
- This initiative is not open to employees, immediate family members of employees or persons living under the same roof as an employee of Canadian Heritage.
Projects must take place in Canada. They may include, but are not limited to, the following activities:
- skills development (e.g. youth leadership) initiatives;
- development of learning materials, tools, and training sessions;
- knowledge-sharing initiatives;
- meetings, events and workshops;
- development of services responsive to eliminating racism and discrimination; or
- development of tech-based solutions, including prototypes of software applications and algorithms.
An application will be disqualified if:
- it negatively depicts another person, country, race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability; or
- it contains content deemed offensive or inappropriate including, but not limited to, nudity, vulgarity or violence.
The following expenses are not eligible:
- any type of Director’s fees for volunteer members of Boards or other governing bodies;
- capital costs or expenditures;
- activities that have been undertaken before the issuance of a grant agreement;
- annual general meetings or regular executive board meetings of an organization or association, including related travel;
- ongoing production of newsletters, newspapers, magazines, journals, or radio and television broadcasts;
- core program expenses, including those incurred by the organization in its normal or daily conduct of business (e.g. rent); or
- in-kind expenses.

- If you are unable to submit your application form by email or if you require accommodation for any reason, you must contact us before April 20, 2018.
We will acknowledge receipt of your application within two weeks of its receipt in our office.
Funding decisions will be communicated within 4 weeks of the deadline date.
