Philippine Youth Leadership Program (PYLP)2017/2018 for young Filipinos (Funded to USA)

The  is a leadership development program that takes Filipino secondary students (ages 15-17) and adult mentors (ages 25-35) from Mindanao on a four week exchange to the United States.  PYLP focuses on responsible citizenship, civic leadership, community development, and project management.  PYLP also includes pre-exchange workshops and learning activities, and post-exchange community service projects in the Philippines. The program is administered by Northern Illinois University in partnership with Filipino Institute for the Promotion of Integrity & Nobility (FILIPINO, Inc.)

Since its inception in 2004, the PYLP has produced more than 200 Filipino youth alumni.

Theme:  “Engaging Young Advocates in Environmental Preservation and Peacebuilding”

Requirements:

youth participants who:

  1. Must be at least 15 years old and not more than 17 years old by April 1, 2018;
  2. Must be either in Grade 9, Grade 10, or Grade 11;
  3. Can speak, read, and write in English proficiently;
  4. Have demonstrated leadership skills and community service;
  5. Have good academic performance;
  6. Are willing to attend the program’s follow-on activities; and
  7. Have no previous significant travel to the U.S. on a U.S. government-sponsored program.

Adult participants who:

  1. Must be at least 25 years old and not more than 35 years old by April 1, 2018;
  2. Can speak, read, and write in English proficiently;
  3. Must have experience in working with or training youth;
  4. Are active in environment-related activities or community projects;
  5. Are willing to attend the program’s follow-on activities; and
  6. Have no previous significant travel to the U.S. on a U.S. government-sponsored program.
