UN DAY 2017: ASIA-PACIFIC PHOTO CONTEST 2017

A picture speaks more than a thousand words. In conjunction with the United Nations Day 2017 celebration in Asia-Pacific, the UN is inviting anyone with a passion and flair for capturing stunning images to participate in a photo contest based on the theme ‘Building A Stronger, Safer and More Sustainable Asia-Pacific.’

Submissions for the contest must be based on the challenges faced by communities in the Asia-Pacific region or
the approaches they are taking to achieve the following Sustainable Development Goals:
Clean Water and Sanitation for all
Ensuring everyone has access to adequate sanitation and safe and affordable drinking water.
Affordable and Clean Energy
Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy to improve efficiency and increase use of renewable resources.
Sustainable Cities and Communities
Creating sustainable cities and communities to deal with the enormous challenges of rapid urbanization,
including growing numbers of slums, increased pollution, inadequate basic services and infrastructure,
and increased vulnerability to disasters.
Responsible Consumption
Ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns to improve quality of life through efficient
use of natural resources and waste management.
Life on Land
Protecting forests from deforestation and desertification to reduce biodiversity loss and land degradation.
Requirements:
  • Open to photographers of all ages, backgrounds and skills, the contest is an opportunity to share the unique perspectives and stories of communities around the region.
  • Photo submissions must be based on challenges faced by communities in the Asia-Pacific region, or the approaches they are taking to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals on clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and life on land.

The contest will be judged in four categories: Judges’ Favourite, Young Photographers, Most Popular and UN Staff. Winning entries will be exhibited at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok during the UN Day Asia-Pacific commemoration on 31 October 2017 and at the 5th Asia-Pacific Forum for Sustainable Development in 2018.
